Notre Dame School is a private, non-profit school educating children with developmental disabilities.  Established in 1963, the school is accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department and approved by the Texas Education Agency for the instruction of students with the following disabilities: mentally retarded, minimally brain injured and learning disabled.
The school is under the sponsorship of the School Sisters of Notre Dame of the Dallas Province whose mission is expressed through ministry directed toward education.  Notre Dame School is a Catholic school, but it is not supported by a parish.  Notre Dame School is a tax-exempt institution under IRS regulations.
The School is composed of four sections:  Primary, Intermediate, Bridges and Vocational.

MISSION:
Notre Dame School educates students with mental disabilities and
facilitates their integration into society.

PHILOSOPHY:

Notre Dame School believes each child is a unique individual who should have the opportunity to develop to his/her fullest potential in an atmosphere of love and genuine concern.  Integration into the non-handicapped community is encouraged.  The school believes that not only the learning of skills, but also the building of self-esteem prepares the student to be integrated into society.  In order for the student to become a contributing member of the larger community, it is imperative that he/she receives consistent, individualized training.
In keeping with the philosophy of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the school is guided in this mission by a firm belief in the inherent dignity of each person as a child of God.  This education is individualized to the needs of the students and designed to foster total development.  The school is open to all persons in the greater Dallas area for whom this education is appropriate.

FINANCIAL STRUCTURE OF THE SCHOOL:

Operating expenses of Notre Dame School are funded annually through tuition, fund raising activities (including the Annual Fund and the An Affair of the Heart event), private donations and investment income from the Notre Dame endowment. Parents are expected to participate, in a variety of ways, in all fund raising activities.
Tuition is set annually by the school's Board of Directors.  Tuition for the 2008-09 school year is $5,500.  Various payment schedules are available.
There is a limited amount of tuition assistance available.  Financial arrangements are handled on an individual and confidential basis.  Parents receiving financial aid must work four hours per month at the school, providing services such as maintenance, lunchroom duty and yard work.
